New Romney Country Fayre
The New Romney Country Fayre is an annual community event, which takes place on the last Saturday of July. The event had to be cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid-19 virus but it is hoped that it will take place in 2021 on Saturday 31 July 2021.
The event is a traditional community country fayre, which has grown into the largest free event on Romney Marsh. It regularly attracts thousands of visitors, not just from the local area, but from all over the South East and even further afield. It is organised entirely by a team of less than 20 volunteers.
The Fayre celebrates everything that is good about New Romney, as provides an opportunity for the entire community to come together, have fun, showcase their talents and raise valuable funds for local charities. Since it began in 1995, it has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to support good causes.
The day begins with a colourful carnival parade through the High Street with over 300 participants and 3 bands. It concludes at St Martin's Field where the Official Opening of the Fayre will take place, along with the presentation of prizes for best parade entries.
Following the parade, all-day entertainment will take place until 5.00 pm in 2 arenas, featuring falconry displays, Morris Dancing, a lumberjack show and the Southern Golden Retriever Society Display Team. Local dance and majorette groups will also be performing.
For visitors travelling to the Fayre please use the following Post Code for your Sat Nav TN28 8HN. As well as free entry to the Fayre a free car park is provided in Ashford Road.
The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway run special trains on Country Fayre Day to arrive in New Romney in time to watch the Parade.
