The Merchant of Venice

"A stage where every man must play a part ...".

Local professional theatre company, Bowler Crab, will be bringing their twelfth full production to date: The Merchant of Venice, on tour across Sussex, Kent and London this June & July!  Debuting at The Mermaid Inn, Rye on 13th and 14th June.

Artistic Director, Stephen John told us, "The Merchant of Venice is an edgy comedy filled with romance, laughter and the odd tear. It’s a comedy with laugh out loud scenes alongside cleverly constructed moments to be taken more seriously; whilst plentiful in romance, riddles, disguises, song and dance, our production also questions the topics of race, class, worth, gender, religion and, ultimately ... revenge. It is our biggest tour to date and by far our most ambitious. After five years of the outdoor and the indoor stage productions being kept on separate tours, this year we are combining our famous summer outdoor runs at Half House Farm (Three Oaks) with our (primarily winter) indoor tour locations. On top of Half House, we will also be returning to our usual haunts in Rye, Hastings, Bexhill and London, along with new venues in Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, Eastbourne and Edenbridge. It’s been a very exciting rehearsal period thus far with many new talented actors joining our team this season, the stunning weather making our rehearsals at Half House Farm particularly enjoyable – who doesn’t love Shakespeare and sunscreen?!”

Bowler Crab’s The Merchant of Venice opens at The Mermaid Inn (Rye) on the evenings of Wednesday 13th June and Thursday 14th June, also performing outdoors at the 16thC Half House Farm in Three Oaks on the evenings of Fri 29th June and Saturday 30th June. Other tour venues include The Stables Theatre (Hastings), St John's Centre (Bexhill) and The Hen & Chickens (Islington, London); The Trinity Theatre (Tunbridge Wells), The Rialto Theatre (Brighton), The Under Ground Theatre (Eastbourne), St John's URC (Edenbridge) as well as subsequent performances at Half House Farm.

Tickets can be purchased from www.bowler-crab.com or phone 07801893115. It is advised to purchase early to avoid selling out, particularly at The Mermaid Inn (Rye) and The Stables Theatre (Hastings) as these frequently leave no seat unclaimed.

The Importance of Being Ernest

An evening of outdoor theatre in the grounds around Romney Marsh Visitor Centre.

Everybody loves Ernest.  In fact, Cecily and Gwendolen are both engaged to Ernest.  The only trouble is, Ernest doesn't exist.  Or does he?
This energetic and musical production from the critally-acclaimed Pantaloons infuses Wilde's witty words with snappy new songs and frantically funny physical theatre to give this perennially popular play a hilarious comtemporary twist!
This is an outdoor theatre production.  Please bring your own seating and a picnic if you wish.  Drinks and ice creams available from the visitor centre.  Toilets available and free parking.

Booking essential.  Book online via the Pantaloons website www.thepantaloons.co.uk/shows/
