Martello Tower No. 24 in Dymchurch High Street was one of 74 towers built along built along the south coast of England between 1805 and 1812, to resist the threatened French invasion.

74 Martello Towers were built on the Kent and Sussex coast, with Martello Tower No.24 considered to be the best surviving example, being closest to its original condition and it can be seen as it was when occupied by the military in 1806.

The tower has been restored to its original design and layout with almost all of the original tower still in place. Martello Tower No.24 is only one of 3 of the 74 built that is open to the public.

The tower contains almost all of the features of the original design including brickwork, front and parapet doors, window openings, fireplaces, ventilation shafts, the original 24 pounder muzzle-loading cannon on the gun platform, parapet shot lockers, hauling rings, replica gunpowder barrels, and replica 'Brown Bess' muskets.

Connected Festival returns to Kent's Lydd Airport for the Mayday bank holiday in 2022, once again showcasing the best in drum and bass, jungle, house, garage and Kisstory Old School anthems.

Following a successful debut year in 2019, in which Connected saw over 7,500 people through its gates showcasing the likes of Andy C, Wilkinson, Shy FX, Hazard, Hype, Problem Central, Majestic and So Solid Crew, the festival will this time transform from an over night event into a two day weekend festival.

Paying homage to the original 90s raves at the airport, Connected brings together the original ravers with the new generation of festival goers and sets its sights on being the flagship event for the South East.

The Romney Marsh Morris will be celebrating the coming of summer at the traditional May Day "dancing up the sun' at The Star Inn at St Marys in the Marsh from 05.15am. This will be followed by breakfast at The Star from 6am which can be pre-booked direct with the pub. Only for the most enthusiastic!
